I love this article by Brian Klems at Writers’ Digest. The temptation to expose the entire skeleton of your novel, in the opening chapter is a strong one … I know! I wonder if the reader will ‘get’ what my novel and its leading players are about … I need to explain it all, right? Wrong! I realise now that I am taking my readers on a journey, and along the way they will discover why the protagonists act as they do, why the antagonist is mean … I don’t need to explain it all in the opening scene. To do so curtails the journey and leaves little of interest to discover en route.
Forget Christian, forget Gideon, forget Gabriel, heck all those dark and mysterious alpha males forget them all and meet Sebastian. He’s going to mess with your head, he’s going to make you swoon, he’s going to make your pulse quicken and then he’s going to make your squirm.
BAM the story hit me and got it’s claws in me straight away, it bowled me over and I was totally at it’s mercy, bit like Beth is with Sebastian. You’ll be laughing, nail biting and crying, it’s a hoarde of sizzling excitment and great twists.
Life at Penmorrow is what your hooked on finding out more about. What does Scarlett really do there? Why does Sebastian employ her? The element of doubt about their relationship is a major bone of contention to Beth. She knows something is not right with it but Sebastian won’t let on and keeps brushing it aside and Scarlett continues to go out of her way to drop hints and not be welcoming to Beth. Yet she is trapped in the pull of Sebastian’s force field and although she should run she can’t. Intrigued by his personality, his dominance and his forceful sexcapades, she’s finds herself mesmerised by him and it would seem he isn’t going to let her go either.
What kind of dark side does Sebastian have and where does Scarlett fit in? The current that runs through this book is high voltage, the suspense surrounding Scarlett is equally enthralling, and the twists keep you hooked, I can’t wait to read book 2 I NEED to find out more.
This week has been simply incredible! 176 ‘Sebastian’ books downloaded in the past couple of days. I’m so grateful to each and every person who is taking the time to read my books!
I am also so honoured to have received an award this week… “Inspirational Woman of The Year”
Most of all, I’m proud of my beautiful children and thankful for my patient, lovely husband.
Have a great weekend!
I waited not so patiently for the third book, and Sebastian did not dissapoint! Mmmmm…got to love the love scenes…Janey knows how to write a simmering scene and I can almost see it happening like a movie playing in my head. Wow. And this final chapter to the story? There were moments when I thought I knew what was going on and then…WHACK! What a bunch of twists and turns. START AT THE BEGINNING…and buy all three books. You will not regret it!
My next novel will encompass a change of direction! This particular story has been rattling around in my head for two years … I am finally writing it! I have set myself a target publishing deadline of late August, but it really depends on our summer. If it’s hot the temptation to be at the beach may simply be too overwhelming! Watch this space…
I loved all 3 books!
You will not be sorry! Sebastian is a good man with a heart of gold! Mrs. Rosen is a wonderful writer with heart and passion for the people in her books!
I hope you enjoy this book series as much as I did! I look forward to her next books!
Amazon review of Sebastian – Retribution.
I love Writers Digest SO MUCH! Every day they drop an email in my inbox full to bursting with great writing tips! Here’s one I quite like:http://www.writersdigest.com/online-editor/5-ways-to-develop-a-book-idea
As soon as I saw the tweet the book was out I downloaded straight away.
By the second page I was on the edge of my seat..
I don’t want to give anything away but the turn of events is brilliant I couldn’t put it down.
I’m so glad that Beth still stayed the strong woman even until the end and a you saw a different side to Sebastian too. It still remained a sexy/funny/shocking book.
Definitely worth a read but read all three.
