5* Review for Sebastian-Secrets “A Sensual Journey into Submission”

A big well done to Janey for a captivating debut novel; an exploration of female sexuality at the hands of seductive Sebastian De Montfort. Beth’s sensual journey of illicit pleasure both excites and scares her in equal measure and threatens to destroy her life of mundane normality. This story has plot twist and moments or eroticism that held my attention. Like Beth, the reader is fearful of her safety and her sanity but is compelled to read on. The next part of the Sebastian Trilogy – Dark Bonds promises to be even darker and Beth’s desire for submission is tested even further. The perfect summer read.

The Catharsis of Deleting Purple Prose

I finally got my head down today and wrote with such vigour that my pencil nearly caught fire… or it would had I used one … ok so my keyboard nearly caught fire.  Anyway, my point is, that I sat back and read the opening chapter.  It didn’t hook me in.  It was too ‘flowery’ so I took a deep breath and highlighted the offending purple passages, then hit ‘delete.’  I repeated the painful process and then rewrote.  The result was, I hope, a far stronger opening.  It’s never easy deleting but it can immeasurably improve the story arc and flow.

I love this ‘writer’ joke…

How many mystery writers does it take to change a light bulb?

Two – One to screw the bulb almost all the way in, and one to give a surprising twist at the end.

Adding Suspense to Your Writing…

I found this article really interested and thought I’d share it.  Brian Klems from Writers Digest gives some fascinating tips on how to wrench up the tension in your writing.  I try and shorten my paragraphs in order to build momentum for the reader.  In Sebastian – Retribution, the final chapters have an upturn in sensory detail to draw the reader in.  In all three of my books, I endeavoured to end each chapter with a cliff-hanger – some minor, and other times an edge of the seat page-turner.  Hopefully this creates just enough tension to carry the reader along through the journey of the story.

5* “Loved Every Minute of This Trilogy”

So this book brings to a close the story of Sebastian and Elizabeth and what a close it is. I love books that I can interact with and even though I have loved, loved, loved, books 1 and 2 it was within this book that I interacted more. I wanted to scream (well I actually did) at the pages Beth, yes your right! Go with your gut feeling! Jesus why can’t they see what’s going on! I was agitated, fired up and wanting to leap into the pages and do some damage! Not that I’m agressive – honest!

Oh boy I have loved these books, I have laughed, been shocked, frustrated and bawled my eyes out! I have to say Janey pens emotional scenes extraordinarly well, the scenes in this book between her and her son are oh so bloody vivid, heart wrenching and downright beautiful.

If all Janey’s books are like this trilogy then I think she’ll be reaping the rewards of a huge fan base very quickly and I can’t wait for more books to be released.

Excellent end to an excellent trilogy and worth every single penny!

I’d love to sign your ebook!

If you look to your left, you will see I’ve added the rather cool ‘Authorgraph’ app to my blog.  This is such fun and incredibly simple … simply click the link and let me know whom to sign to, and hey presto! I will return a signed dedication to you by return 🙂

How to Weave Backstory Seamlessly into your Novel…

I love this article by Brian Klems at Writers’ Digest.  The temptation to expose the entire skeleton of your novel, in the opening chapter is a strong one … I know!  I wonder if the reader will ‘get’ what my novel and its leading players are about … I need to explain it all, right?  Wrong!  I realise now that I am taking my readers on a journey, and along the way they will discover why the protagonists act as they do, why the antagonist is mean … I don’t need to explain it all in the opening scene.  To do so curtails the journey and leaves little of interest to discover en route.

“What kind of dark side does Sebastian have…?” 5* Amazon Review for Sebastian – Secrets

Forget Christian, forget Gideon, forget Gabriel, heck all those dark and mysterious alpha males forget them all and meet Sebastian. He’s going to mess with your head, he’s going to make you swoon, he’s going to make your pulse quicken and then he’s going to make your squirm.

BAM the story hit me and got it’s claws in me straight away, it bowled me over and I was totally at it’s mercy, bit like Beth is with Sebastian. You’ll be laughing, nail biting and crying, it’s a hoarde of sizzling excitment and great twists.

Life at Penmorrow is what your hooked on finding out more about. What does Scarlett really do there? Why does Sebastian employ her? The element of doubt about their relationship is a major bone of contention to Beth. She knows something is not right with it but Sebastian won’t let on and keeps brushing it aside and Scarlett continues to go out of her way to drop hints and not be welcoming to Beth. Yet she is trapped in the pull of Sebastian’s force field and although she should run she can’t. Intrigued by his personality, his dominance and his forceful sexcapades, she’s finds herself mesmerised by him and it would seem he isn’t going to let her go either.

What kind of dark side does Sebastian have and where does Scarlett fit in? The current that runs through this book is high voltage, the suspense surrounding Scarlett is equally enthralling, and the twists keep you hooked, I can’t wait to read book 2 I NEED to find out more.
